A 43-year-old man, identified as Anthony, from Nantes, France, contracted a severe case of measles following a trip to morocco last summer. He says an ongoing measles epidemic in Morocco nearly cost him his life.
Anthony recounted how a two-week family vacation in Morocco led to a life-threatening illness. upon returning from Morocco, he developed what initially appeared to be angina pectoris, exhibiting flu-like symptoms, a sore throat, and a persistent fever.
He sought a second medical opinion. The diagnosis of measles in an adult was not necessarily easy to make, especially since I had no skin rash in the beginning. The chief infectiologist of the clinic then came into action and pointed to the measles. I just came back from Morocco and the epidemic was still on the newspaper,
he stated, according to The Mountain.
Anthony was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Academic Hospital of Nantes, where he remained for 50 days. I was held in an artificial coma for 11 days. I got two pulmonary embolisms. They put me on my stomach, just like with COVID-19, to try to save my lungs. I just escaped it, that is clear,
he said.
Following a month of recovery at home, Anthony realized his measles vaccination schedule was incomplete. You need two doses for these measles. I may have had one, I may say because I have a health book that was not clear about that. At least I didn’t have the second, that’s for sure.
