Hundreds Brave Fog to Greet New Year’s Sunrise on Taiwan‘s Hehuan Mountain
HEHUAN MOUNTAIN, TAIWAN – Despite foggy and rainy conditions, hundreds of eager tourists flocked to Hehuan mountain, a popular taiwanese destination known for its breathtaking views, to witness the first sunrise of 2025.
The mountain, reaching an elevation of 3,275 meters (10,712 feet),is a favorite spot for stargazing and sunrise viewing. Undeterred by the less-than-ideal weather, crowds began arriving as early as midnight on New Year’s Eve, hoping to catch a glimpse of the dawn.
By morning, all parking lots in the Hehuanshan area were full, with traffic backed up for several kilometers. Local police worked diligently to manage the flow of vehicles and ensure the safety of visitors.
“We had nine officers on duty diverting traffic and assisting visitors,” said a spokesperson for the Renai Branch of the Nantou County Police Department. “Despite the challenging conditions, everyone was in good spirits and excited to welcome the new year.”
The spokesperson also reminded visitors to exercise caution when driving in mountainous areas, especially during inclement weather.
While the fog obscured the sunrise for some, the experience of ringing in the new year amidst the beauty of Hehuan mountain was undoubtedly memorable for all who made the journey.
A Mountaintop Festivity

The allure of Hehuan Mountain’s sunrise is undeniable.
“I saw photos online, it looked amazing!” said Amelia, a local resident. “Hundreds of people headed up there, even though the weather was supposed to be awful.”
Her friend, Ben, agreed. “I know Hehuan Mountain is famous for its views, but I wouldn’t want to be stuck in the fog.”
Amelia acknowledged the disappointment some might have felt. “Some people were disappointed that the sunrise wasn’t visible as of the fog,” she said.”But they said the atmosphere was still amazing.Think about it – welcoming a whole new year on top of a mountain, surrounded by nature.”
Ben conceded the point. “That does sound pretty special. I bet traffic was a nightmare though, right?”
Amelia confirmed his suspicions. “Definitely! The local police said all the parking lots were full by morning and traffic was backed up for kilometers. they had officers on duty all night to keep things moving and make sure everyone was safe.”
Despite the challenges, the dedication of the visitors and the efforts of the local authorities ensured a memorable start to the new year for all involved.
