For 57 years, the Toyota Hilux‍ has been ‍a symbol of the pickup truck, a ubiquitous presence ⁤on⁤ roads ‍worldwide, with the⁣ notable‍ exception ⁢of North America.⁤ Its reputation for durability has even led to its adoption by military forces. now, ⁤the eighth generation ⁣Hilux introduces a significant ⁢innovation: electrification.

The 48V mild-hybrid system⁣ was first showcased as a concept at a commercial vehicle exhibition. The production model ⁤retains the 2.8-liter four-cylinder ⁤diesel⁤ engine,now augmented with an electric motor/generator,a 48V⁣ lithium⁢ battery,and a DC-DC converter,similar ⁤to other mild-hybrid systems with regenerative braking.

Toyota anticipates the new system will provide smoother starts, acceleration, and deceleration, along with quieter operation and a 7% ‍improvement ‍in fuel⁢ economy.Fuel consumption is estimated to be between 10.0 and 10.2 liters of ⁢diesel per 100⁤ km. The vehicle delivers ⁣150 kW of power and 500 Nm of torque,⁤ managed⁤ by a six-speed transmission.

The Hilux offers a traditional selection of⁣ rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, and a ‍low-range setting for difficult ‍terrain. A rear differential lock is available for enhanced traction at low ⁣speeds.

A new feature ⁣is a selector for⁣ various Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) surfaces, which adjusts the drive control system based on ⁢conditions. Along‍ with an automatic mode, the driver⁢ can⁤ select modes for sand,⁣ mud, deep snow, gravel, and stones.

The electrical components ⁣are protected with waterproof covers,and the drive belt features a high-strength ‍cotton fabric layer to absorb water and reduce noise. A⁣ dual-shoulder tensioner ⁢ensures proper belt tension.

The mild-hybrid Hilux retains its cargo and towing capacity, capable of carrying up to 1 ton of cargo and⁤ towing up⁤ to⁢ 3.5 tons.

the GR Sport II features a wider track, resulting in a more aggressive stance. Ground clearance is increased to ⁢323 mm, and the front ⁣approach angle is ‍30 degrees.

The front arms are widened by 70 mm, and the suspension includes a⁢ lighter tubular stabilizer and repositioned shock absorbers. The rear⁢ axle has a new‍ square cross-section, and‍ the shock absorbers⁢ are moved to the ⁤outside of the vehicle frame.The GR Sport II utilizes mono-tube shock absorbers for improved performance in challenging terrain.

While the GR sport II excels in off-road driving, its stiffer suspension can make the ride harsh on paved roads. The standard Hilux offers ⁣a more versatile driving⁢ experience.

The GR Sport II does not incorporate electrification, relying on a 2.8-liter 150 ⁤kW turbodiesel engine with all-wheel drive. Fuel consumption is slightly higher at 10.7 l/100 km.
