Kurla, Mumbai – A horrific accident​ in Mumbai’s Kurla West neighborhood has left four dead ⁣and 29 injured after a speeding BEST bus careened into pedestrians and vehicles. the incident, which occurred ⁣around 9:30 ​pm on Monday evening near Anjum-I-Islam school on SG Barve⁣ Marg, has sent shockwaves through ‍the community.

The victims, identified as Afreen⁣ Shah ⁣(19), Anam ⁤Shaikh (20), Kanish Kadri ⁢(55), ⁢and Shivam Kashyap (18), were pronounced dead at​ the scene. The bus ‍driver, 50-year-old Sanjay ⁤More, has been‍ detained ‌by police.

More claimed that a brake failure caused the accident, but‍ eyewitnesses paint a⁢ different picture. They allege that the ⁤driver appeared intoxicated and was unable to⁣ control‍ the heavy ‍electric bus. Inspector Bharat Jadhav from the state transport department stated that ⁣initial investigations suggest the bus’s brakes were functioning properly, ⁢but a thorough analysis will be conducted.

The bus, operating on​ route number 332, was traveling from​ Kurla‌ station towards⁢ Agarkar Chowk in Andheri West. Witnesses described ​a scene of chaos ⁣as the bus, traveling at high speed, collided with vehicles, including two-wheelers and⁢ autorickshaws, crushing one wholly.

“We saw two‌ persons lying almost dead in the road,” said eyewitness⁣ Aslam Ansari. “the bus ⁣was full of passengers when the accident took place.”

Saad Shaikh, who runs a vegetable ⁢shop near the accident site, recounted the⁢ horrifying scene.”The⁣ bus ​first ‍knocked ⁤into a car, then an auto, and then several people. ​It finaly stopped after crashing⁢ into the gate‌ of Dr Babasaheb ambedkar Nagar,” he ‌said.

Shaikh disputed the driver’s claim of brake failure,emphasizing the bus’s high‍ speed. “The​ road ⁣was very crowded as people‍ were walking from Kurla station towards their homes and market when the BEST bus suddenly‍ came and started running over ⁢people,” he added.BEST ⁢spokesperson Sudas​ Sawant stated that ​a ⁣full inquiry is underway and more‌ facts ⁤will​ be released⁣ as⁤ it becomes available.
