A man in his 70s died in a fire on the first floor of a two-story detached house in Jiphyeon-myeon, Jinju-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, around 5:26 pm on the 5th. The photo shows the fire scene. Provided by Gyeongnam Fire Department = Yonhap News.

A man in his 70s died after a fire broke out in a single-family home in Jinju, Gyeongnam.

At approximately 5:26 pm on the 5th, a fire broke out on the first floor of a two-story single-family house in Jiphyeon-myeon, Jinju-si.

Mr. A (76), a physically disabled man on the first floor, died in this fire. In addition, Mr. A’s wife, Mr. B (64), suffered serious injuries from smoke inhalation and is being treated at the hospital.

The fire department mobilized 36 personnel and 12 pieces of equipment and extinguished the fire at approximately 5:56 PM, within 30 minutes.

Police and fire authorities believe the fire started in an electric wheelchair that was charging at home and are investigating the exact cause of the fire.
