Kannauj Accident: Five Doctors Killed
Five doctors died in a road accident near Kannauj city on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway early Wednesday morning. The crash happened when their vehicle hit a divider and was struck by a truck.
The vehicle lost control, crashed into the median, and then crossed into the opposite lane where the truck collided with it near Point 196 in Tirva.
Circle Officer Dr. Priyanka Bajpai confirmed that all the victims were from UP University of Medical Sciences. They were returning to Etawah after attending a wedding in Lucknow.
The deceased were identified as:
- Dr. Aniruddh Sharma, 29, from Agra
- Santosh Maurya, 30, from Ravi Dass Nagar
- Arun Kumar, 32, from Kannauj
- Narendra Gangwar, 32, from Bareilly
- Rakesh Singh, 36, from Bijnore
Jaiveer Singh, a PG student, was critically injured and taken to a medical university.
The police reported that the SUV was speeding when the driver fell asleep. This caused the vehicle to collide with the divider before crossing into the oncoming lane. The truck came from Rajasthan and hit the SUV, dragging it for a distance.
Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Anand stated the accident occurred around 3 am. All five doctors died on the spot, while Jaiveer Singh suffered serious injuries and was taken to Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Medical College in Tirwa.
Police have notified the families of the victims, and legal proceedings are ongoing.
