Nahid Rushdie: A Legendary Egyptian Actress Passes Away
Egypt’s artistic community is in mourning after the death of Egyptian actress Nahid Rushdie, famous for her role as “Sunni” in the series “I Will Not Live in My Father’s Robe”, has left our world. At the age of 68, September 14 this year coincides with his birthday.
The Plight of Sickness
The late artist’s funeral was held today, Saturday, at the Al-Kawaqibi Mosque in Cairo’s Aguza area and was buried in the family grave at the Al-Ghafir Cemetery in Salah Salem.
According to a local Egyptian website, Nahid Rushdie had been suffering from cancer for over 4 years. During that time, he was receiving treatment, but as he neared recovery, the disease came back to attack him. Nahid chose to keep details of his illness hidden from colleagues in the artistic community, as he hoped to return with a new artistic project before his death in the early hours of today.
Before his death, the Egyptian artist spoke about his illness in a televised interview and said that this experience changed him and made him reevaluate the people around him. Time devoted himself to caring for her for two years.
He added that he was content with a small group of close friends who came to him during the ordeal of his illness, including Hanan Suleiman, Azza Labib and Mai Abdel Nabi.

As for Wafa Sadiq, he expressed his grief at this news, especially since he was celebrating his birthday at the same time and said, “There is no power or strength except Allah.. We belong to God, we will return to Him. Nahid Rushdie has passed away. .we ask you to pray for Fatiha.”
Actor Hamza Al-Ayli mourned him and wrote on his account on the Facebook platform, “Dear Professor Nahid Rushdie, my dear, passed away in great silence… Glory to God, your birthday is the same day as your kind soul. May its Creator have mercy and be patient with all your family and you are the beloved and honest artist of our hearts eternal, and to God and to Him we will return.”
Film critic Mahmoud Abdel Shakour wrote, “Farewell, Nahed Rushdie, who resembles many Egyptian women, deserves more diverse roles, but she leaves an indelible mark on each character. I love her role (Dream Journey) in the series.”
Nahid Rushdie’s Legacy
Nahid Rushdie is one of the emerging artists of the eighties, especially after graduating in 1982 from the acting department of the Higher Theater Institute. He presented many important roles including “Arbesque,” “Sakin Kasadi,” “Hawanim Garden City,” and “Days Go By.” He achieved great success with his role in ”Sunset Oasis”, but gained wide fame for his role as a Sunni in the series “I Will Not Live in My Fathers”.
