Salvatore “Toto” Schillachi, the former Italian national team striker and 1990 World Cup Golden Boot winner, has died aged 59 after battling colon cancer since 2022.
Schillaci made his mark on the football world by winning the Golden Boot award at the 1990 World Cup, scoring 6 goals in 7 appearances and helping the team to 3rd place that year.
Schillaci had been battling colon cancer since 2022 and had undergone two surgeries. Unfortunately, he passed away on September 18, 2024, at the age of 59.
Throughout his career, Schillaci earned 16 caps for the Italian national team and played for renowned clubs such as Juventus and Inter Milan, among others. He also had a stint in Japan with Jubilo Iwata.
