Tragic Murder of Caregiver in Brazil: Co-Worker Confesses to Strangulation After Rejection
A tragic crime occurred in Goiania, Brazil, involving a 38-year-old caregiver, Cintia Ribeiro Barbosa, who was allegedly murdered by her co-worker, Marcelo Junior Bastos Santos. They both worked at an elderly care home in the Cidade Jardim neighborhood. Barbosa’s body was discovered on November 5, a day after her death.
Reports state that Santos confessed to killing Barbosa after she rejected his romantic advances. Following his proposal for a kiss, Barbosa slapped him, which led to violence. Santos reportedly strangled her and then used diaper tape to bind her hands. He later concealed her body by throwing it over a wall into a neighboring unoccupied property.
Police chief Carlos Alfama explained that Santos initially thought Barbosa was dead. However, when she regained consciousness and attempted to escape, he strangled her again with masking tape to ensure her death.
Investigators found disturbed earth in the backyard and noticed that the electric fence had been tampered with. Initially, they suspected an accomplice might have helped dispose of the body. However, security camera footage confirmed that Santos acted alone.
A friend of Barbosa mentioned that she was beloved by the elderly couple she cared for and had worked there for about six years.
