Tragic Pesticide Incident: Over 100 Monkeys Die in UP Warehouse
Over 100 Monkeys Die from Pesticide in UP Warehouse
More than 100 monkeys died after inhaling a pesticide at a food warehouse in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred when a troop of monkeys entered the facility through a broken window on November 7. Workers had sprayed aluminium phosphide on wheat sacks to protect them from pests and rodents.
The deaths were discovered on November 9, but the employees did not inform their superiors and secretly buried the monkey bodies in a pit. Police began an investigation after local leaders learned of the incident and reported it.
Authorities exhumed the deceased monkeys for a postmortem. Circle Officer Yogendra Krishna Narayan confirmed the case against the Food Corporation of India employees. The condition of the exhumed bodies indicated they had been buried for some time.
This tragic event highlights the dangers of improper pesticide use and the need for better animal protection measures.
