Chinese Man Dies of Heart Attack 13 Days After Receiving 23 Tooth Extractions and 12 Implants in One Day
A man in China who underwent an extensive dental procedure, having 23 teeth pulled and 12 implants placed in one day, died of a heart attack 13 days later.
According to Shanghai Daily and other Chinese media outlets, Mr. Huang, a resident near Zhejiang Province, China, had the surgery on the 14th of last month. After the procedure, Mr. Huang experienced severe tooth pain and eventually died of a heart attack 13 days later.
A dental staff member stated that while front teeth can usually be extracted and implanted on the same day, molars typically require a recovery period of 3 to 4 months. However, Mr. Huang’s consent form for surgery shows that the doctor extracted multiple molars and implanted them on the same day.
Mr. Huang’s family plans to take legal action, claiming it was a dental accident. However, the dental clinic denies the claims, stating it was not a medical accident.
Mr. Huang’s daughter expressed her grief, saying, “I didn’t know my father would leave this world so quickly,” and “Since it is clear that this was a dental accident, we will take legal action.”
A dental specialist pointed out that “adults usually have 28 to 32 teeth, so removing 23 teeth in one procedure is abnormal.” City health officials are still investigating the cause of death due to the 13-day gap between Mr. Huang’s surgery and his death.
The dentist who performed the implant surgery has five years of treatment experience and is currently working normally.
