Saudi Arabia’s New Shura Council: A Step Towards Women’s Empowerment
Saudi Arabia has announced the formation of its new Shura Council, with 30 female members out of a total of 150 members. This move is seen as a significant step towards women’s empowerment in the country.
According to a report by okaz, the new Shura Council “raises the status of (Saudi) women and embodies their empowerment to participate effectively in development at various levels and levels.”
The report highlights that social media sites have publicized the names of the new Shura members, and researched their practical and academic progress, reinforcing confidence in their ability to hold such positions. This comes at a time when the country is witnessing systemic reforms to empower women, increase their participation in the labor market, and assume leadership positions.
The formation of the new Shura Council was announced through a royal decree issued by Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz on Monday.

The new Shura Council will have a 4-year term, with Abdullah al-Sheikh continuing as chairman of the council, Mishal al-Sulami as vice-president, and Hanan al-Ahmadi as assistant to the President. The council will have a total of 150 members, including 77 new members and 71 members from the last session.
While the Shura Council does not have legislative powers, it plays a crucial role in making recommendations to the government about the country’s general policies.
