Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina - Talents Sarajevo, the prestigious film industry event and training program, has announced its lineup of esteemed mentors for its 2024 edition. This year’s program promises to equip emerging filmmakers,critics,and industry professionals with invaluable insights and practical skills,fostering a collaborative environment for artistic and professional development. The curated selection of international experts will guide participants through various facets of filmmaking, from scriptwriting and cinematography to editing, producing, and critical analysis.
Scriptwriting Studio: Nurturing Authentic Voices in Collaborative Storytelling
The Scriptwriting Studio, a cornerstone of Talents Sarajevo, will be led by acclaimed screenwriter and director Marta Savić. Savić, known for her nuanced explorations of character and her ability to craft compelling narratives, will guide emerging screenwriters in developing their unique voices. The studio will delve into crucial aspects of the writing process, including character development, plot construction, and dialogue. Emphasis will be placed on understanding development room dynamics, and genre innovation, with a core focus on “helping young writers understand how to protect their voice while working collectively.” This approach ensures that participants not only hone their craft but also learn to navigate the collaborative nature of filmmaking effectively.
Camera studio: Visual Storytelling Through Empathy and Collaboration
Under the leadership of North Macedonian cinematographer Naum Doksevski, the Camera Studio will explore visual storytelling as “an act of both empathy and collaboration.” Doksevski, whose celebrated work includes goran Stolevski’s Venice award winner “Housekeeping for Beginners” and Georgi M. Unkovski’s Sundance winner “DJ Ahmet,” brings a distinctive perspective to the art of cinematography. The Producers Summit will feature the expertise of Katriel Schory, a highly influential figure in international cinema from Israel. With a remarkable track record of supporting over 250 films, Schory offers “a pragmatic, strategic understanding of how to balance artistic vision with financial and logistical realities.” His mentorship is designed to empower producers by focusing on their dual role as “facilitator and safeguard.” Participants will gain critical knowledge in navigating the complexities of international co-productions, securing funding, and ensuring the sustainable operation of creative teams across diverse cultural and logistical landscapes.

Bosnia’s Redžinald Šimek, one of the region’s most experienced editors, will lead the Editing Studio. Neil Young, a respected critic, curator, and performer, returns to guide Talent Press, the program dedicated to emerging film critics and journalists. Young’s extensive experience, including service on juries at prestigious festivals such as Cannes, Berlinale, and Venice, provides participants with “practical expertise in crafting insightful, responsible criticism in an industry shaped by rapid digital discourse and evolving public engagement.” This program equips young writers with the tools to analyze and articulate their perspectives on contemporary cinema in a dynamic media landscape.
pack & pitch Lab: project Packaging and Presentation Excellence
The Pack & Pitch lab, co-mentored by Gabriele Brunnenmeyer and Nick Davies, offers essential guidance on how to effectively articulate, package, and present film projects. Brunnenmeyer, a key figure in renowned European project development labs like Midpoint and Rendez-Vouz-Industry Cannes, and Davies, a cultural strategist and editor with experience at the Venice biennale and Toronto Film Festival, will lead participants through the crucial stages of project development.
