Swiss Federal Railways Improves Shaky High-Speed Trains
After years of delays and complaints about a jarring ride, Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) says it has considerably improved it’s Duplex TGL high-speed trains. The trains, nicknamed “the shaking train” after their 2018 launch, are undergoing a 90 million franc transformation to address passenger discomfort.
Reto Liechti, Head of Passenger Production at SBB, told 20 Minutes the improvements mark “a new chapter” and will bring passenger comfort ”to a new level.”
What’s Changed
While travel times and punctuality won’t be affected, passengers should notice a smoother, quieter ride. SBB demonstrated the changes to the press with a test run, comparing a trip on an unmodified train to one on a renovated model along the same route.
According to 20 Minutes, the initial issues with the Duplex TGL trains led to widespread passenger dissatisfaction. The renovation program aims to eliminate the excessive shaking that plagued the original design.
More information about the transformation can be found here.
