The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provided updates on May 15, 2026, regarding the monitoring of individuals exposed to hantavirus and the emergence of Ebola outbreaks in two African nations.
During a briefing on May 15, 2026, CDC officials outlined the agency’s current response efforts to track hantavirus and coordinate international health responses to Ebola.
Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, the Senior Official Carrying out the Delegable Duties of the CDC Director, announced that the agency is closely monitoring reports of an Ebola outbreak in the Ituri province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
The CDC is working with the DRC Ministry of Health through its country office to support response efforts in the Ituri province.
