Transforming Buckingham Palace: £369 Million Renovation Unveiled
Buckingham Palace curtains have been reimagined as luxury footstools. These unique footstools will be auctioned online to support the King’s Foundation charity.
Eight footstools, made from royal drapery, are now available for purchase. The proceeds will aid charitable causes, including the preservation of traditional craft skills.
This project reflects the royal family’s commitment to sustainability. The curtains, sourced from Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle, date from the 1950s to 1990s. They feature patterns such as Delft blue floral and rich damask burnt orange, used during Queen Elizabeth II’s reign.
The auction is well-timed for Christmas, giving royal fans a chance to own a piece of history. This year, the auction also highlights Queen Camilla’s support for Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. Dogs from the shelter took part in a photoshoot for the auction, adding a heartwarming element to the event.
The footstools are handcrafted at the Snowdon School of Furniture within King Charles’s Highgrove Estate in Gloucestershire. The upholstery work is done by the Dumfries House Sewing Bee in Scotland, a community project that helps develop textile skills.
Overall, this initiative blends royal history and sustainability while benefiting important charities.
