Indonesia’s Finance Minister Threatens Transportation Ministry Budget Cut
Indonesia’s Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa warned the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) it will face a budget cut if it doesn’t resolve issues with taxes on foreign vessels within three months. The threat came during a meeting to address business complaints through the government’s Strategic Program Acceleration Task Force (Satgas P2SP).
“The INSA (Indonesian National Shipowners Association) has three months to demonstrate whether there’s a discrepancy between domestic and foreign vessel tax realization,” Sadewa stated at the Ministry of Finance in Jakarta on Monday. “If they find no difference, they should report back to us. We will punish Kemenhub.”
The issue centers on ensuring fair tax practices for both Indonesian-flagged and foreign-flagged ships operating within the country. The Indonesian National Shipowners Association brought the complaint forward, alleging unfair competition due to tax discrepancies.
