In accordance with the provisions of the Environmental Protection Act, from January 1, 2025, all parts of the country must sort waste at the source. Sources from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment have issued technical guidelines for implementing waste sorting.
Accordingly, household waste is divided into three categories: organic waste, waste that can be recycled and reused, and residual household waste. In the remaining household solid waste groups, authorities must separate hazardous solid waste and bulky waste.
Representatives of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment shared that household solid waste sorting aims to minimize waste generation by promoting reuse and recycling of waste and discarded products, maximizing value, and extending the life of waste and materials. By reducing the amount of waste that needs to be processed, it contributes to revitalizing the circular economy and reducing environmental pollution.
Statistics show that if waste is properly sorted at source, only 60-75% of food waste, 15-20% of recyclable waste, and only about 25-30% of recyclable waste end up in landfill or factory disposal. To the environment and human health.
