Travis Air Force Base Opens New Mission Planning Center

Travis Air Force Base opened its Mission Planning Center (MPC) on November 22. This facility results from teamwork between the 60th and 349th Air Mobility Wings. The MPC aims to support mission planning and execution.

The MPC primarily serves the new KC-46A Pegasus. It strengthens the base’s ability to deploy airpower globally. The MPC streamlines planning and fosters collaboration among experts to conduct coordinated mission planning.

Maj. Jake Chavers, the MPC chief, notes that combining expertise in one location enhances communication. This improves the speed and quality of mission support for aircrews.

Capt. Nick Andermahr explains that mission planning cells are common in fighter units. To prepare for Great Power Competition, the Mobility Air Forces adopted this model to boost aircrew capabilities for current and future operations.

The MPC will support various missions, including global reach and strategic airlift with the KC-46A, C-5M, and C-17. It will also assist in aeromedical evacuation and staging of Joint Forces.

Col. Jay Johnson, commander of the 60th AMW, emphasizes that the MPC signifies a commitment to readiness and support for Airmen.

This center enhances mission planning, ensuring Travis remains a key hub for power projection. By integrating new technologies and improving processes, the MPC increases efficiency and adaptability in mission execution.

During the opening ceremony, Congressman John Garamendi praised the team involved in creating the center. He highlighted the facility’s role in fostering important communication and coordination within the Air Force and beyond.
