marks the inaugural edition of the Trekking to Pico Salamanca, coinciding with the anniversary celebrations of Comodoro Rivadavia. The event, designed to showcase the city’s potential as an adventure and nature tourism destination, will offer two levels of difficulty, catering to a range of fitness levels.
Pico Salamanca, the highest point on the Argentine Coast, resides within the protected natural area of Rocas Coloradas. Organizers are aiming to highlight the area’s unique beauty and ecological significance while providing a challenging and rewarding experience for participants. The trek will feature both a low-intensity and a moderate-level circuit, with limited spaces available at a promotional cost. This cost includes insurance coverage, a post-trek gathering (“tercer tiempo”), raffle prizes, musical entertainment, and a unique sensory relaxation experience – a gong bath.
The day’s activities are scheduled to run from to , with the base of Pico Salamanca, within the Rocas Coloradas Protected Natural Area parking lot, serving as the central meeting point. Participants can expect a well-organized event, with experienced guides leading smaller groups categorized by age and skill level.
Guiding the groups will be Gabriel Isotelli of Ubuntu Trek, a mountain guide with a background in neuro-education and physical education, and Micaela Melian Ares of Seaside Trail Experience, a certified hiking guide. They will be responsible for distributing participants appropriately, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all. A warm-up session will be led by Silvia Lavalle of Comodoro Deportes, and medical personnel and an ambulance will be present throughout the trek to address any potential health concerns.
The initiative is being lauded as a key component in strengthening the local tourism value chain. Eduardo Carrasco, Executive Manager of Comodoro Turismo, emphasized the importance of such events in diversifying the city’s economic base and promoting its natural and historical attractions. “This type of initiative allows us to strengthen the city’s tourism business model that we need to consolidate,” Carrasco stated, adding that the goal is to encourage local residents to become ambassadors for their region, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility for its preservation.
Organizers are keen to emphasize the importance of preparedness. Participants are advised to wear appropriate clothing, including long pants or leggings, sturdy mountain shoes with suitable soles for climbing, and sun protection (hat and sunscreen). A technical t-shirt, windbreaker or fleece jacket, and a small backpack containing water, a cereal bar, nuts, and candies are also recommended. Walking sticks are optional. A blanket or mat is suggested for the relaxation experience following the trek.
Registration is currently open, with specific contact information provided for each circuit. Those interested in the ascent to Salamanca Peak can reach out to Ubuntu Trek at 2975279285.
