Liverpool fans can breathe a sigh of relief as contract talks between the club and star right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold have reportedly been “very positive,” according to Sky Sports’ Melissa Reddy.
While extensions for Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have long been expected, Alexander-Arnold’s situation has been shrouded in more uncertainty. The vice-captain’s relative silence on the matter, coupled with persistent interest from Real Madrid, has fueled speculation about his future at Anfield.
Reddy, though, paints a more optimistic picture. “My information has been very consistent and that is that talks remain ongoing between liverpool and the representatives of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold to give them new contracts,” she explained.
“The dialogue has been very positive, it’s been moving forward, it’s been held in a very respectful manner from all sides. Because ultimately, Liverpool want to do right by the players, but also on the club themselves.”
While Salah and Van Dijk have been “unequivocal” about their desire to stay at Liverpool, Reddy notes that Alexander-Arnold’s stance remains less clear.
The situation will undoubtedly be closely watched by Liverpool supporters, who are eager to see their homegrown star commit his long-term future to the club.
