The Trenton high school softball team began its Division 2 playoff campaign on May 21, 2026, with a 10-0 shutout victory over local rival Grosse Ile in a district first-round matchup.
Trenton secured the win in five innings, marking the team’s third shutout of the spring season and its first since late April.
The Trojans established early momentum, scoring at least two runs in four of the five innings played. The most significant offensive surge occurred in the second inning, where Trenton scored four runs to take a 6-0 lead.
By the end of the game, the Trenton offense had collected 12 hits. This total included four extra-base hits and four stolen bases. Seven of the nine starters recorded at least one hit, with five players finishing the game with two hits each.
The victory comes during a challenging season for Trenton, which entered the postseason with a record below the .500 mark and had won only two of its previous seven games.
Grosse Ile entered the contest having won four games throughout the season, including a single victory in its previous 14 outings.
Prior to the start of the game, the Trojans honored former longtime head coach John Biedenbach. Biedenbach, who is 83 years old and a Hall of Fame coach, led the Trenton softball program for 45 seasons before retiring in 2019. He attended the event with his wife, Joani.
