Tribute to Eugene Robbemond: Whanganui Motorsport Icon Fatally Shot in South Africa

The Whanganui motorsport community mourns Eugene Robbemond, who was killed during a robbery in South Africa. Local reports state a man was shot dead while trying to stop a robbery in Monte Vista, a suburb of Cape Town.

Police confirmed Robbemond was 49 years old. He died around 1:30 p.m. on Friday on Mostert Street. Authorities believe the robbery was planned, although the suspects fled the scene without any money.

Robbemond’s parents were the intended victims. They were followed home after shopping at N1 City mall. A witness reported that Robbemond threw a sledgehammer at the robbers’ vehicle before he was shot.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade is assisting Robbemond’s family, but no further details will be released for privacy reasons.
