Tribute to Oscar-Nominated Assistant Director Adam Somner: Remembering His Legacy at 57
Adam Somner, a respected assistant director in Hollywood, has died at 57. He worked with top directors including Alejandro G. Iñárritu, Martin Scorsese, Paul Thomas Anderson, Ridley Scott, and Steven Spielberg.
Recently, Somner was part of an untitled Warner Bros. project with Anderson, featuring Leonardo DiCaprio. He previously collaborated with Anderson on several films, including Inherent Vice and Licorice Pizza. With Scorsese, he worked on Killers of the Flower Moon and The Wolf of Wall Street. His projects with Ridley Scott included Gladiator, Hannibal, and All the Money in the World. He also partnered with Iñárritu on The Revenant and Birdman.
Somner received an Academy Award nomination for Licorice Pizza in 2021. He also won a Directors Guild of America Award for The Revenant in 2015.
He is survived by his wife, Carmen Ruiz de Huidobro; their children, Olivia and Bosco; and his brother, Mark Somner.
