Tricity Unites Against Diabetes: Awareness Drive Launched
Chandigarh: To mark World Diabetes Day, Command Hospital (Western Command) in Panchkula organized a major awareness drive against diabetes. This event was conducted in partnership with the Endocrine Society of India (ESI) and local medical institutions across Tricity.
The initiative focused on educating the public about diabetes prevention, early detection, and management. Various activities took place, including diabetes screening camps, a “Run for Fun,” a cyclothon, and a walkathon. Over 150 healthcare professionals participated in the “Run for Fun” event, which aimed to spread further awareness. A total of 500 individuals were screened for diabetes, while 100 participants attended educational sessions and 200 patients received free consultations and medication.
Expert lectures were given by endocrinologists, psychiatrists, psychologists, dietitians, and diabetes educators to enhance community awareness about diabetes. Informational pamphlets and brochures were distributed to provide additional resources.
Maj Gen Matthews Jacob, Commandant of Command Hospital Western Command, emphasized the importance of empowering people with knowledge and encouraging proactive health measures to combat diabetes. Dr. (Lt Gen) Narender Kotwal, president of the Endocrine Society of India, and Lt Col (Dr) Mandeep Sharma, an endocrinologist at the hospital, reiterated the need for collaborative efforts to tackle the diabetes crisis.
This campaign saw participation from significant institutions including PGI, GMSH-16, GMCH-32 in Chandigarh, and Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) in Mohali. Their involvement highlighted the joint commitment to raising diabetes awareness in the community.
