“The layout of Hubei’s life and health industry has taken shape and achieved results, and market players are growing stronger.” According to a relevant person in charge of the Hubei Provincial Development and Reform Commission, Wuhan has initially formed an industrial cluster of high-end medical equipment and innovative biological drugs, with a scale of nearly 500 billion yuan. Yichang is accelerating the creation of an industrial cluster focusing on chemical drugs and raw materials, with a scale of over 80 billion yuan. Huanggang City, relying on advantageous resources such as Qi Ai, is accelerating the creation of a characteristic traditional Chinese medicine industrial cluster, with a scale of over 50 billion yuan. Xianning City is concentrating on cultivating and developing a health care industry cluster, with a scale of over 60 billion yuan.
As of the end of June, the number of life and health enterprises in Hubei Province reached 4,976, a year-on-year increase of 16.7%. According to the relevant person in charge of the Hubei Provincial Department of Economics and Information Technology, in 2023, 224 million yuan of special funds for the high-quality development of the provincial manufacturing industry will be allocated to support 174 pharmaceutical technical transformation projects; and 186 million yuan of special funds will be allocated by the state to focus on supporting technical transformation projects of 14 pharmaceutical companies such as Wuhan Institute of Biology and Yuanda Pharmaceutical. In the first half of this year, the first batch of special funds for the high-quality development of the provincial manufacturing industry have been allocated to support 82 life and health industry projects, with a total investment of 7.608 billion yuan, and 5.056 billion yuan of investment has been completed.
At the same time, the pharmaceutical supply chain service platform is operating in a substantive manner, and the construction of a use-oriented R&D service system is accelerating.
According to the relevant person in charge of the Hubei Provincial Development and Reform Commission, Hubei Jiuzhou Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Company has officially launched a digital integrated service platform for pharmaceutical supply chains, providing diversified services such as logistics, R&D, and supply chain finance. The Yangtze River Industry Group has established the Hubei Provincial Pharmaceutical MAH Transformation Platform to help the transformation of innovative drugs. The Optics Valley International Medical Innovation Center is accelerating the construction of a medical innovation highland with global influence.
Regarding the next step of development, the above-mentioned person in charge said that we should focus on clinical needs and the integration of medicine and engineering, solve the “0 to 1” original innovation problems and key core technology difficulties, accelerate the transformation of innovative results, and create a globally influential medical equipment R&D and intelligent manufacturing highland, a characteristic industry highland for original research and original drugs, and a smart medical and health service highland. By 2025, we will strive to launch 10 new innovative medical devices and 10 national first-class new drugs, so that technological innovation, the “key variable”, will become the “largest increment” to promote the breakthrough development of the industry.
