Kejriwal has publicly criticized the Congress for what he perceives as a discreet alliance with the BJP.

AAP Gears Up for delhi assembly Elections, Spars with Congress
New Delhi, January 7, 2025 – The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is gearing up for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, receiving endorsements from key opposition parties while engaging in a heated battle with the Congress.
The Trinamool Congress and the Samajwadi Party, both members of the INDIA bloc, have thrown their support behind AAP,echoing their backing in the 2020 Delhi assembly elections. Trinamool Congress leader Derek O’Brien took to X (formerly Twitter) to endorse not only AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal for Chief Minister but also all AAP candidates. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also congratulated Kejriwal on the party’s resounding victory in the 2020 elections.
Though, the AAP’s relationship with the Congress remains strained. After Congress leader Ashok Gehlot questioned AAP’s chances of victory in the upcoming polls, Kejriwal fired back, accusing the Congress of openly revealing its true intentions.
“The Congress has made it clear that the AAP is its opposition in Delhi,” Kejriwal wrote on X.”People also felt that AAP is the opposition for Congress and BJP is its partner. People also believed that BJP and Congress are fighting the elections together against AAP. Till now this cooperation between you two was secret. Today you have made it public.Thank you on behalf of the people of Delhi.”
The AAP and Congress, despite being allies in the INDIA bloc for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, are contesting the Delhi Assembly elections separately. Their rivalry intensified after both parties blamed each other for the poor performance of the INDIA bloc in delhi during the parliamentary elections.
Tensions escalated further last month when Delhi Congress leader Ajay Maken called the Lok Sabha alliance with AAP a “mistake.” The AAP threatened to demand the Congress’s removal from the INDIA bloc if the party didn’t take action against Maken.
The battle for Delhi is set to be a fierce one. Voting for the 70-member Delhi Assembly will take place on February 5, with results announced on February 8. The Congress, which held power in Delhi for 15 consecutive years, has struggled in recent elections, failing to win any seats in 2020. In contrast, the AAP dominated the 2020 elections, securing 62 out of 70 seats, while the BJP won only eight.
