A new force in Quebec animation is taking shape with the launch of PUNCH! Animation, a venture bringing together established production company Trio Orange and a trio of prominent animation executives: Benoit Godbout, Sylvain Lavoie, and Julie Mongeau. The partnership, announced today, , aims to develop and produce original animated content with a focus on showcasing Quebec intellectual property on a global scale.
Trio Orange, a Canadian production leader since 2008, brings over 400 productions to the table, spanning fiction, non-fiction, and youth programming. Their credits include series like Empathy, Last Summer of the Raspberries, and Lac-Mégantic: This is Not an Accident, demonstrating a breadth of experience in the Canadian television landscape.
Godbout and Lavoie contribute a significant track record in television animation, having worked on popular series such as Vie de Quartier and Pérusse Cité (both for Radio-Canada), Les Mini-Tuques and Blaise le blasé (Télétoon), Martha Speaks (PBS), F is for Family (Netflix), and Breaking Bear (Tubi). They also have experience with animated feature films, including La Course des Tuques, Les Bottanïx, and Débridés.
Julie Mongeau rounds out the leadership team, bringing extensive experience in production and post-production. Her career includes work with Motion International/TVA International, Spectra Animation/Echo Média, and CarpeDiem, with a focus on international co-productions involving France, Belgium, Germany, Finland, and Spain. Her expertise is expected to be crucial in navigating the complexities of bringing Quebec-originated animation to international markets.
The formation of PUNCH! With over 25 years of combined experience, the founding partners of PUNCH! Animation are aiming to build on Quebec’s existing success in the animation industry. They hope to create the next wave of hit animated series and films originating from the province. The company’s approach will leverage their collective experience in realization, production, and post-production of projects for television (including Netflix, Tubi, Radio-Canada, Télé-Québec, TELETOON, and France Télévisions) and theatrical release.
Julie Mongeau is already actively promoting PUNCH! Animation on the international stage, with planned participation in key industry events including Berlinale, MIPLondon, Anima, Cartoon Movie, and the Festival d’Annecy/MIFA. These appearances are geared towards forging business relationships and identifying potential partners for future projects.
