Tristan Crist Magic Theatre Expansion Plans
The Tristan Crist Magic Theatre in Lake Geneva is planning a significant expansion. A new two-story addition of 5,671 square feet will be built on the west side of the current theater at 100 N. Edwards Boulevard.
City Council Approval
On November 11, the Lake Geneva City Council approved a conditional use permit for this expansion. The Lake Geneva Plan Commission also approved it earlier on October 21. Peter Juergens, representing the theater’s owners, T.C. Productions, LLC, explained the plans during the meetings.
Features of the Expansion
The new addition will feature:
- An indoor miniature golf course
- Additional recreational activities, including axe throwing
- Seating areas and a bar
- A small performance area for live music
- A party rental area
- An upper-level mezzanine
- An outdoor seating area with picnic tables, designed for families
Juergens mentioned this space will allow parents to sit outside with their children on nice days without serving as an entertainment venue.
Storage and Parking
A 500-square-foot building for storing props and equipment will also be part of the project. The expansion includes increasing the theater’s parking lot from 68 to 94 spaces. Juergens is building extra parking to accommodate future growth of the theater.
Landscaping Plans
Plans include a greenspace area on the west side with new greenery and a natural barrier. Juergens stated that 25 evergreens will be planted to enhance privacy and aesthetics.
Concerns from Local Residents
Some residents from the nearby town of Lyons expressed concerns during the public hearings, particularly about noise and lack of notification about the project. They felt the city’s actions were insufficiently communicated.
Mayor Todd Krause urged residents to contact city officials if they did not receive a notice about the project.
Noise Considerations
Concerns about potential noise from the outdoor area led to a provision in the conditional use permit that prohibits amplified sound or music from that space.
History of the Theater
Tristan Crist Magic Theatre opened in 2015 at 609 W. Main St. The current building was constructed between 2018 and 2019 to provide more seating. In December 2021, the City Council approved a 25-foot addition to the building.
