There is an exciting development for college football fans. Tristan Phillips, a four-star linebacker from Ventura, Calif., has narrowed his list of schools to six. This young talent is making waves in the sports recruiting scene as he nears a major commitment.

On Tuesday afternoon, Phillips revealed his top school choices in an interview with 247Sports’ Brandon Huffman. The list includes prestigious programs such as Arizona State University, University of Oklahoma, University of Oregon, University of Utah, University of Washington, and University of Wisconsin.

With more than 10 offers from Power 5 programs and numerous visits this fall, Phillips is focused on what to do after his junior season. The versatile athlete also excelled in basketball and track and field, contributing to his team’s success by totaling 80 tackles, two sacks, and one interception in 11 games. During his high school career, he accumulated 182 total tackles according to MaxPreps.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Phillips is ranked No. 301 overall and No. 24 among linebackers in the 2026 recruiting cycle. This is primarily based on the On3 Industry Ranking, which aggregates data from four major recruiting outlets. He is also ranked 33rd among juniors in the state of California.

On a recent visit, he witnessed Oregon’s epic victory over Ohio State at Oatzen Stadium. In a postgame conversation with Scoop Duck’s Max Torres, Phillips rated the visit a perfect 10 and expressed his admiration for the program and coaching staff.

“I had a chance to talk to coach Brian Michalowski after the game and also spent time with coach Zach Dyles before and after the game,” Phillips said. “I felt so welcomed and appreciated when Coach Dan Lanning greeted me cheerfully as I left the locker room and came to my table. It was a great experience to have a conversation with him.”

“I can say Oregon is definitely at the top of my options moving forward,” he added, indicating growing interest in the Ducks.
