President Donald Trump announced on April 12, 2026, that the United States Navy will begin a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. The decision follows the collapse of peace talks between the United States and Iran held in Islamabad over the weekend preceding the announcement.

The blockade is intended to target any and all ships attempting to enter or leave the Strait of Hormuz. Trump announced the measure via his Truth Social platform, stating that the process of blockading the waterway would begin immediately.

Failure of Islamabad Peace Talks

The naval action comes after negotiations in Islamabad failed to produce a deal. While Trump described the talks as having gone well, he noted that the parties failed to reach an agreement regarding Iran’s nuclear program.

Failure of Islamabad Peace Talks

Trump characterized Iran’s actions regarding the strait as WORLD EXTORTION, specifically citing Iranian claims that mines may be present in the waterway. He asserted that the United States and other global leaders would not be extorted by such claims.

Naval Instructions and Objectives

The President issued specific directives to the U.S. Navy to interdict every vessel in international waters that has paid a toll to Iran. The Navy has been instructed to destroy any mines that Iran has laid within the strait.

Trump indicated that the blockade is a response to Iran’s desire for money and nuclear capabilities. He stated that the United States would not allow Iran to profit from what he termed an Illegal Act of EXTORTION.

While the current orders are for a blockade, Trump suggested that the U.S. Would eventually move toward a basis where all ships are allowed to enter and exit the strait, though he maintained that Iran had prevented this outcome.

Military Escalation and Threats

The announcement included severe warnings directed at Iranian forces. Trump stated that any Iranian who fires upon U.S. Forces or peaceful vessels will be BLOWN TO HELL!

Although the President did not explicitly state that the U.S. Was planning to resume immediate airstrikes, he warned that the military is LOCKED AND LOADED. He further declared that the U.S. Military stood ready to finish up the little that is left of Iran.

Trump also noted that other countries would be involved in the blockade effort, though he did not specify which nations would participate.

A naval blockade is generally regarded as an act of war. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical chokepoints for global oil shipments, making the blockade a significant escalation in the conflict between the United States and Iran.
