Trump Attends UFC Heavyweight Championship: A Clash of Politics and Passion

Trump Attends UFC Heavyweight Championship: A Clash of Politics and Passion

November 17, 2024 Catherine Williams News

Trump Attends UFC Heavyweight Championship in New York

President-elect Donald Trump attended the UFC heavyweight championship at Madison Square Garden. This event showcased Stipe Miocic fighting current champion Jon Jones at UFC 309. Trump is a long-time UFC fan and frequently attends major fights. His campaign highlighted hypermasculine themes, appealing to male voters over Vice President Kamala Harris.

This trip to New York occurred after Trump announced Chris Wright as his choice for energy secretary. Wright, CEO of Liberty Energy, is a supporter of oil and gas development, including fracking. Trump aims for U.S. “energy dominance” in the global market.

Elon Musk, a key ally, called for public input on Trump’s yet-to-be-decided Treasury Secretary. Musk advocated for Howard Lutnick, CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald, over Scott Bessent. He criticized Bessent’s conventional approach, stressing the need for change to avoid financial decline.

Both Lutnick and Bessent have been considered for the Treasury role. Lutnick supports cryptocurrency, while Bessent is skeptical of it. Meanwhile, Trump’s pick for Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., also backed Lutnick, emphasizing Bitcoin as a hedge against inflation.

Trump has announced several administration picks, including Florida Sen. Marco Rubio for Secretary of State and former Rep. Matt Gaetz as attorney general. He is still selecting heads for Education and Labor Departments. Trump named Will Scharf as assistant to the president and White House staff secretary.

Aside from a trip to Washington to meet with President Joe Biden, Trump has spent time at Mar-a-Lago since his Election Day win, attending events and galas. Trump has had a long-standing friendship with UFC President Dana White, attending numerous UFC matches since 2001. White has increased his political influence, speaking at Republican events and supporting Trump.

Overall, Trump’s interest in UFC and relationships within the sport reflect his broader appeal to his voter base and ongoing political strategy.
