President Donald Trump canceled plans to send U.S. Special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner to Pakistan for discussions with Iranian officials on the Iran nuclear issue, according to multiple news reports from April 25, 2026.

The cancellation was announced by Trump on his Truth Social platform, where he stated that “too much time [was] wasted on traveling, too much work!” and criticized what he described as “tremendous infighting and confusion within their ‘leadership.'” He added that “nobody knows who is in charge, including them” and asserted that “we have all the cards, they have none!” Trump concluded by saying that if Iran wishes to talk, “all they have to is call.”

Witkoff and Kushner had been scheduled to travel to Islamabad earlier in the day to engage in direct talks with Iranian counterparts regarding a potential ceasefire or diplomatic engagement related to ongoing tensions. The White House had confirmed the trip was planned before Trump’s abrupt reversal.

Iranian officials had already indicated no intention to meet with the U.S. Delegation. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei stated on X (formerly Twitter) that “no meeting is planned to take place between Iran and the U.S.” and said that Iran’s observations would be conveyed to Pakistan instead.

Prior to the cancellation, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had met with Pakistan’s military chief, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, in Islamabad. The Iranian embassy in Pakistan confirmed the meeting occurred early Saturday, April 25, 2026. After the meeting, the Iranian delegation departed the country, according to Pakistani government sources cited by Reuters.

The development occurred amid broader regional tensions, including continued uncertainty over the Strait of Hormuz and ongoing military activity involving Israel, Hezbollah, and Lebanese forces, although those matters were not directly tied to the canceled trip.

As of the time of the reports, no rescheduled date for the envoy trip had been announced, and the White House had not provided further details on future diplomatic engagement with Iran through this channel.
