Trump Claims he Could Have Averted Civil War
Former President Donald Trump stated he believed he could have handled the Civil war more effectively than Abraham Lincoln, perhaps avoiding the deaths of over 600,000 people. He made the remarks during a meeting with reporters at the White House wednesday.
Trump’s comments come amid scrutiny of his use of federal troops within the U.S. After courts ordered the return of National Guard control to California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Trump deployed additional National Guard members to Los Angeles.
Newsom has accused trump of overstepping states’ rights and potentially instigating a civil war, an accusation Trump denied earlier in June.
Comedian Jon Stewart,on “The Daily Show,” echoed Newsom’s concerns.
“He doesn’t want to deploy the military overseas. He wants to save the military for the real threat: us,” Stewart said. ”The MAGA mindset appears to be, ‘We didn’t vote for foreign war. We voted for civil war.’”
