Washington D.C. – U.S. President Donald Trump has refuted recent reports suggesting his top military advisor opposes a potential war with Iran, dismissing the claims as “fake news.” The dispute centers on assessments offered by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Caine, regarding the potential consequences of military action against Tehran.

Multiple U.S. And Israeli media outlets reported on Monday, February 24, 2026, that General Caine cautioned the Trump administration against launching an attack on Iran. These reports surfaced as President Trump has repeatedly threatened military action if Iran does not yield to a series of demands, particularly concerning its nuclear program. Negotiations between the two countries, mediated by U.S. Envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, are scheduled to continue in Geneva on Thursday with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump directly challenged the reports, stating, “Numerous stories from the Fake News Media have been circulating stating that General Daniel Caine, sometimes referred to as Razin, is against us going to War with Iran. The story does not attribute this vast wealth of knowledge to anyone, and is 100% incorrect.”

Trump continued, asserting that while General Caine, “like all of us, would like not to see War,” he believes that if a military decision is made, “it is his opinion that it will be something easily won.” The President also referenced Caine’s alleged role in overseeing a previous U.S. Response to Iranian actions, stating that Caine “organized and supervised the attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities last year, when Tehran was involved in a 12-day war with Israel.”

The Washington Post reported earlier this week that General Caine had expressed concerns to President Trump about the potential for a prolonged conflict, the strain on U.S. Munitions stockpiles – already depleted due to support for allies like Israel and Ukraine – and the possibility of U.S. Casualties. According to the report, Caine also raised questions about the availability of critical munitions and the level of support from regional allies should the U.S. Initiate an attack.

The timing of these reports coincides with a visible increase in U.S. Military presence in the Middle East, raising regional anxieties about a potential confrontation. On Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened a security meeting with top aides to discuss the escalating tensions. This followed a deadly crackdown by Iranian authorities on widespread anti-regime protests last month, which prompted Trump’s initial threats of military action.

Trump dismissed the reports of disagreement with his top general as “written incorrectly, and indeed intentionally so.” He reiterated his preference for a diplomatic resolution but warned that failure to reach an agreement would have severe consequences for Iran. “I prefer a deal, but if we don’t get a deal, it will be a very bad day for that country, very unfortunate, for its people, because they are great and amazing, this should never happen to them,” Trump stated.

The conflicting narratives surrounding the potential for military action highlight the delicate balance between President Trump’s assertive rhetoric and the cautious assessments of his military advisors. The situation remains fluid, with ongoing diplomatic efforts and a heightened military posture suggesting a continued period of uncertainty in the region. The U.S. Has also reportedly ordered non-emergency personnel to leave its embassy in Beirut amid the rising tensions, according to reports.

The debate over a potential strike against Iran underscores the complex geopolitical calculations at play. While President Trump has consistently adopted a hard line towards Tehran, concerns remain about the potential for escalation and the broader regional implications of a military conflict. The outcome of the upcoming negotiations in Geneva, and the continued assessment of risks by General Caine, will likely be crucial in determining the next steps in this evolving situation.
