Trump Orders ICE to Ramp Up deportations from Democratic Cities

Updated June 16, 2025

President Donald Trump has instructed Immigration and⁤ Customs⁤ enforcement (ICE) to significantly increase deportations ⁣of migrants living in cities with democratic leadership. The directive follows recent unrest in‍ Los Angeles.

In a Truth Social post Sunday,Trump called on ICE agents to “achieve the very important goal of delivering the single largest Mass Deportation Program in History.” He⁢ emphasized expanding⁤ efforts in major cities such as Los Angeles, Chicago, and ⁢New York, citing large populations of migrants.

Trump claimed Democrats are using migrants to “expand their Voter Base, cheat in Elections, and⁤ grow the Welfare State,” taking jobs and benefits from citizens.‍ Many Democratic-led cities, including‍ Los Angeles and Chicago, have sanctuary policies restricting cooperation with‍ federal immigration agents, a long-standing point of contention for Trump and Republicans.

california Gov. ‍Gavin ⁣Newsom⁣ and Los angeles Mayor⁢ Karen⁤ Bass have denounced‍ Trump’s decision to deploy the National Guard and Marines to quell unrest after ICE raids last week. ‍Newsom has sued Trump and the Pentagon, ⁤arguing ⁢the move is unlawful.

“Donald trump is creating fear and⁢ terror by failing to adhere to⁣ the US Constitution and overstepping his authority,” Newsom ⁣said.

A curfew was imposed in parts of downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday after days of looting, vandalism, and clashes with police. During his campaign, Trump pledged to reverse what he termed “open-border” ⁣policies⁤ under former President Joe Biden.
