Republican Clay Fuller won a special election on April 7, 2026, to fill the seat in Georgia’s 14th Congressional District previously held by Marjorie Taylor Greene. Fuller, a lieutenant colonel in the Georgia Air National Guard, secured the victory with the endorsement of Donald Trump.

The election result ensures that the strongly conservative district remains under Republican control. The victory also supports a narrow GOP majority in the U.S. House of Representatives, which stands at 217-214.

Election Process and Results

The path to the seat involved two stages of voting. An initial special election was held on March 10, 2026, in which Democrat Shawn Harris performed marginally better than Fuller. This outcome was attributed in part to a crowded field of Republican candidates that split the vote.

Because no single candidate achieved a majority during the March 10 vote, a runoff election was required. That runoff took place on April 7, 2026, resulting in Fuller’s victory over Harris.

Following the results, Fuller held an election night watch party in Ringgold, Georgia. He credited the support of Donald Trump as a decisive element in the campaign’s success.

He was the difference-maker, He made all the difference in the world. It was the honour of my lifetime to be able to get his endorsement.

Context of the Vacancy

The seat became available after Marjorie Taylor Greene resigned earlier in 2026. Greene, who had been a staunch ally of Donald Trump, resigned after breaking with the president.

Context of the Vacancy

The victory for Fuller maintains the GOP’s hold on the Northwest Georgia district, despite a challenge from the Democratic party and reported uneasiness regarding the war in Iran.

Future Term and Midterm Outlook

Fuller will serve the remainder of the term vacated by Greene, which is scheduled to end in January 2027.

To maintain the seat beyond January 2027, Fuller must campaign for the midterm elections occurring in November 2026. Shawn Harris has indicated via social media his intention to run again, stating that the fight continues and that people in the district are ready for leadership that puts them first.
