Tucker Carlson has alleged that President Donald Trump was influenced by a constellation of influencers
when deciding to enter into war with Iran, claiming the president acted more as a hostage
than a sovereign decision-maker.
In an interview with The New York Times published Saturday, Carlson identified Rupert Murdoch, Mark Levin and Sean Hannity as part of the group pushing the president toward the conflict. According to Carlson, these individuals pressured the president by suggesting that such action would make him a figure out of history
and allow him to save and redeem Israel
.
Decision-Making and Regime Change
Carlson stated that the decision-making process was not a normal
one and was connected to a series of events revolving around violence. He asserted that he had spoken with Trump for a decade regarding the pressure to initiate regime change in Iran, noting that Trump was aware of the risks associated with such efforts based on the U.S. Experience in Iraq.
The commentator expressed that he was baffled
and very upset
by the eventual decision to start the war. He cited this development as the reason for expressing regret over his support of Trump’s 2024 campaign, stating that the outcome was worse even than I imagined
.
He embarked on this effort to take out Iran’s nuclear program, which is really just the opening salvo in a regime-change effort. He knew that. I told him that. Charlie Kirk told him that.

Carlson claimed he spoke with the president frequently in June of the previous year. He noted that by January, it became clear that the U.S. Was moving toward the current conflict, a prospect that left him absolutely panicked
. He further alleged that the president made no effort to convince him to change his position on the war.
Military Action and Economic Impact
The conflict intensified in February when the United States and Israel launched strikes against Iran. These operations resulted in the death of former supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as well as various military and intelligence officers. Reports indicate the strikes also killed over 100 people, the majority of whom were children at an elementary school.
The geopolitical instability has extended to the Strait of Hormuz, where the two sides continue to clash. This instability has had direct business and consumer implications in the United States, where fuel prices are currently soaring.
In response to these claims, The New York Times reported that Sean Hannity and Mark Levin denied Carlson’s assertions. Rupert Murdoch did not respond to requests for comment.
