Trump Abruptly Departs G7 Amid Mideast Concerns, misses Zelensky Meeting

President Donald Trump’s sudden departure from the G7 summit in Canada on Monday sparked questions after he cited
developments in the Middle East as the reason. The move resulted in him missing a scheduled encounter with
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt previously stated the early exit was “as of what’s going on in
the Middle East.” Trump, speaking to reporters in Banff, Canada, insisted his return to the White House was
“very important” but offered no further explanation.

Footage showed Trump alongside Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, thanking him for hosting.”I have to back,
it’s very critically important…I want to just thank our great host,” Trump said to Carney.

Addressing journalists, Trump reiterated, “I have to be back as soon as I can. I will have dinner with these
marvelous leaders and then I get on the plane, as I have to be back early.” He did not elaborate on the reason
for his hasty return, despite a reporter’s direct question.

Before leaving, Trump highlighted a trade deal signed with U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer. “We got a lot done.
Didn’t we get a lot done? In fact, with the UK, we signed a big trade deal today,” Trump said.

“This is big stuff,” Trump added, referring to the reasons behind his early departure.

What’s next

The implications of Trump’s early departure and missed meeting with Zelensky remain to be seen as geopolitical
tensions continue to unfold.
