President Donald Trump distributed $45,000 each in holiday cash gifts to three close female aides—Natalie Harp, Margo Martin, and Chamberlain Harris—along with a $20,000 gift to Walt Nauta, according to financial disclosures released by the administration.

White House Financial Disclosures Reveal Aide Bonuses

The substantial cash distributions appeared on the annual financial disclosure forms published by the administration. Executive assistant Natalie Harp, communications adviser Margo Martin, and deputy director of Oval Office operations Chamberlain Harris each received $45,000. Walt Nauta, who serves as director of Oval Office operations, received a $20,000 gift, according to AP reporting. White House salary disclosure reports submitted to Congress show that Harp, Martin, and Harris each earn $150,000 annually, while Nauta is paid $175,000 a year. A White House official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, defended the payments by stating that Trump has a longstanding practice of giving Christmas gifts to people in his orbit, including employees and aides both in government and during his time in the private sector. The official maintained that the cash gifts were entirely unrelated to the recipients’ official government duties and therefore fully permissible under relevant legal and ethical standards, as noted by AP.

Profiles of Trump’s Closest Aides

The beneficiaries of the holiday gifts occupy high-visibility roles within the administration. Natalie Harp maintains a constant presence by Trump’s side, carrying a portable printer to provide him with printed copies of favorable media coverage and social media posts, as the president prefers reading hard copies over screens. Her visibility drew sharp public attention when Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff questioned her close proximity, generating intense debate among political circles. Margo Martin has worked alongside Trump since his first term in the White House, where she began as a press assistant. Following the 2020 election, she relocated to Palm Beach, Florida, to manage media operations before returning to Washington after Trump’s 2024 victory. Chamberlain Harris, who also holds the title of special and executive assistant, was appointed by Trump earlier this year to serve on the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts, an agency with oversight responsibilities for the White House ballroom project. Walt Nauta previously served as a valet to Trump. In 2023, Nauta and Mar-a-Lago property manager Carlos De Oliveira faced charges accusing them of conspiring with Trump to obstruct an FBI investigation into classified documents taken after the first presidential term. Those charges were dismissed in 2024.
