President Donald Trump announced on April 7, 2026, that the United States would suspend planned military attacks on Iranian infrastructure for a period of two weeks. The decision follows more than five weeks of conflict involving the U.S. And Israel.

According to a post on Truth Social, the suspension is conditional upon the COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime corridor for global oil transit. Trump described the arrangement as a double sided CEASEFIRE!

Deadline and Previous Threats

The announcement occurred less than two hours before an 8 p.m. ET deadline on April 7, 2026. Trump had established this deadline on the preceding Sunday after posting a demand on social media for Iran to Open the Fuckin’ Strait.

Prior to the suspension, Trump had issued warnings that the failure to reach a deal would result in the destruction of Iranian civilian infrastructure. He had previously claimed that a whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again if the deadline were not met.

Diplomatic Influence and Negotiations

Trump stated that the decision to pause military action was based on conversations with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir. Both officials had urged the U.S. President to hold off on the planned strikes.

Diplomatic Influence and Negotiations

The U.S. President claimed that Washington has received a 10 point proposal from Iran, which he characterized as a workable basis on which to negotiate. Trump indicated that most key issues within the proposal had already been addressed and that the two-week window would provide the necessary time for both sides to finalize a definitive long-term peace agreement.

Trump further asserted that the U.S. Had already met and exceeded all Military objectives in the conflict.

Iranian Response and Maritime Coordination

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi issued a separate statement regarding the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz. Araghchi stated that vessels would be permitted to pass safely during the two-week interval.

ships will be able to safely pass through the strait for the two-week interval “via coordination with Iran’s Armed Forces and with due consideration of technical limitations.”

Economic Impact

The announcement of the provisional ceasefire led to immediate volatility in global markets. Oil prices experienced a sharp decline, plunging as much as 16% following the news. Simultaneously, U.S. Stock futures saw an increase.
