Trump’s Golf Game Raises Security Concerns
(Central News Agency, West Palm Beach, Florida, extensive foreign news report on the 15th) US Republican presidential candidate Trump is suspected of being murdered again today while playing golf in Florida. American media analyzed that stadium open spaces and unguarded golf carts have always been a security challenge for special services personnel.
The New York Times reports that Trump’s love of golf has long been a security challenge for the Secret Service, who prefer armored vehicles and enclosed buildings to golf carts and open fairways and greens.
While members of Trump’s security team are always on hand, the Secret Service’s approach to protecting him when he plays has been inconsistent, even at semi-open events like golf invitationals.
Secret Service agents protecting Trump sometimes use handheld magnetometers to check if people are armed. At times, visitors, vendors, and reporters would walk alongside Trump undetected. Secret Service agents sometimes warn people not to get too close to Trump, but Trump often prefers a relaxed atmosphere and invites people to take pictures or chat.
Trump’s golf courses are generally considered the best in the world, but they also have safety issues common to any course, such as wide open spaces and often few places to take cover.
Trump usually drives the golf cart himself, which, aside from the presidential logo, looks almost like any other golf cart without bulletproof glass or other protection. He often drives alone, with security personnel just meters away, only occasionally seen in a black Secret Service SUV near the pit where Trump is preparing to hit the ball.
Some Secret Service agents will look further away from Trump to see if there is a threat. On its course near Washington, DC, Secret Service agents patrol the Potomac River, especially when boats pass by. There are also people who will check Trump’s back to see if there is anything strange in the place he just walked.
CNN reported that after Trump was killed during a rally in Pennsylvania in July, authorities tightened security around him, but today they planned to attack a man armed with an AK-47 rifle less than 457 meters away from Trump.
CNN noted that security at golf courses is particularly tight. Fairways and greens are often designed close to the fairway and include woods, hills and other places where shooters can hide.
As with previous presidents, the golf club will not be closed to the public and nearby roads will not be closed due to Trump’s visit.
Trump’s golf club is located in West Palm Beach, Florida, adjacent to three heavily trafficked highways: Kirk Road, Summit Boulevard, and Palm Beach International Airport (also nearby).
Palm Beach County Sheriff Rick Bradshaw acknowledged in a briefing today that there are some security concerns. He said that Trump is not the current president, so the scope of the security is limited to areas where the Secret Service believes there might be problems, but “it’s conceivable that the next time (Trump) comes to play, there may be more people around.”
Former President Obama’s most visited golf course during his tenure was located at Joint Base Andrews on the outskirts of Washington, D.C. Since it is a military installation, access to the course and its surrounding area is strictly limited.
Current President Joe Biden doesn’t play much golf.
