Trump Weighs ‍Military Role in Iran Amid escalating Tensions

Updated June 20, 2025

President Donald Trump⁢ will ⁣decide within two weeks whether to authorize a strike against Iran, according to Press Secretary Karoline‍ Leavitt. The declaration comes as tensions escalate between Iran and Israel, prompting‍ the U.S. to consider its potential role in the conflict.

Leavitt, ⁢reading ⁤from a statement, quoted Trump as saying his decision would be based on⁣ “a significant chance of negotiations that may or may not⁢ take place with Iran in the near future.”

Trump’s timeline coincides ⁤with⁢ increased aggression between Iran and israel. The U.S. is evaluating ⁢direct military action. When asked Wednesday about potential strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, ⁤Trump said, “I may⁤ do it, I may not do it, nobody knows what I’m going to do… I can tell you this. Iran’s got a lot⁢ of trouble.”

Leavitt stated, “The United States government maintains ⁣this ‍fact that Iran has never been closer to obtaining a nuclear weapon.” She added that⁢ Trump ⁤is receiving regular briefings from the National Security Council and is in constant contact with Israeli Prime Minister ‍Benjamin netanyahu.

Recent attacks began ⁤last Friday with⁢ Israeli “preemptive air strikes” on⁢ multiple Iranian sites. According to the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), the strikes have resulted in 639 deaths and 1,329 injuries in Iran, ⁤including 263 civilians and 154 military personnel. Iranian strikes have killed 24 ‍and⁤ injured 838 in israel.
