Trump Urges Iran Deal After Israeli Strikes Kill Key Officials

Updated June ‌13, 2025

President Donald Trump on ‌Friday pressed Iran to agree to a deal, hours after Israeli strikes resulted in the ‌deaths of several high-ranking Iranian military figures and targeted Iran’s nuclear capabilities. The call for a deal comes as the United States was preparing for talks with Iranian negotiators regarding a potential nuclear agreement.

Trump stated⁢ on Truth Social that he had given Iran “chance after chance” to make a deal.He added‍ that Iranian hardliners “are all DEAD now, and it will only get worse!” He urged Iran to “make a deal, before there is nothing left, and save what was once known as the Iranian Empire.”

In a separate post, Trump mentioned issuing a 60-day ultimatum to Iran to make a deal, adding, “today⁤ is day 61. I told them what to do, but they just couldn’t get there. Now they have,‌ perhaps, a second chance!”

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei of Iran responded to the ⁣attacks by saying Israel “should expect severe punishment.” The strikes resulted in the deaths of Mohammad Bagheri, commander of the Iranian military; Hossein Salami, commander of‍ the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps; Gholamali Rashid, deputy commander ⁢of the Iranian armed forces; Amir Ali Hajizadeh, leader of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps airspace unit; Ali Shamkhani, the lead negotiator in Iran’s nuclear negotiations with the U.S.;‌ and ‌at least ‌two Iranian nuclear scientists.

Prior to the strikes, the Trump⁢ administration had reportedly advised Israel against military escalation, preferring a diplomatic resolution through upcoming talks. The U.S.also warned it would ⁣not participate ‌in a unilateral strike.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Israel took unilateral action and that the U.S. was not involved. “We are not involved in strikes⁣ against Iran and our top priority is protecting American forces in the region,” Rubio said. “Let me be clear: Iran should not target U.S.interests or personnel.”

What’s next

The situation remains tense as the international community awaits Iran’s response and the future of nuclear deal‍ negotiations. The role of the United States in mediating the conflict and ensuring regional ‌security is also under scrutiny.
