Trump-Musk feud highlights ‘violence’ of right-wing politics, expert says
Trump-Musk Feud Sparks Criticism Over Impact on Immigrants
Updated June 08, 2025
As the public dispute between former President Donald Trump and Elon Musk intensifies, a historian is weighing in on the potential consequences. Tristan Cabello, a lecturer at Johns Hopkins University, argues that the ongoing feud between the two right-wing ideologists is harmful to marginalized communities.
Cabello contends that Trump and Musk are “using the discourses that they are using to marginalise the most oppressed people in America, for example immigrants, between themselves,” emphasizing the “violence” inherent in the “systems that they represent.”
The historian characterized both men as “right-wing ideologists, who believe in capitalism” and “two white supremacists” who, despite their shared ideologies, are in conflict. The public feud and it’s impact on vulnerable populations is drawing increased scrutiny.
“We have two men here who are right-wing ideologists, who believe in capitalism …we have two white supremacists… and yet they can’t get along,”
What’s next
The ongoing tension between trump and Musk, and the subsequent commentary, is likely to continue shaping public discourse regarding politics, technology, and their intersection with social justice issues.
