Johnson Calls for Trump and Musk to reconcile After Feud

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-la., expressed hope Friday ⁣that former President Donald Trump and Elon Musk can “reconcile” following a public disagreement over the Republican budget reconciliation bill.

johnson told reporters he was with Trump ⁢when the former president learned of Musk’s opposition. “He was disappointed, and I ⁢was surprised by Elon’s sudden opposition,” Johnson said.

“I believe in redemption,” Johnson added, suggesting it would ‍benefit both the Republican​ Party and the country if the matter⁣ were resolved.

While not directly naming Musk, Johnson appeared to caution‍ him against criticizing Trump. “Do not doubt, do not ⁣second ⁣guess, and don’t ever challenge the President of the‍ United States, donald Trump,” Johnson stated. “He is the leader of the party…and he’s doing⁢ an excellent job.”

Johnson acknowledged exchanging texts with Musk but declined to discuss their content. ⁢he downplayed the impact of Musk’s criticism,‌ asserting that ⁤Republicans remain committed to passing the budget legislation.

The​ White House, via press secretary karoline Leavitt, stated that Trump remains⁤ focused on “making our country great again and passing the One Big Lovely ⁣Bill.”

Trump, in a separate‌ interview,‍ dismissed ⁤any interest in ​speaking ​with Musk and brushed ⁤aside Musk’s threat to form⁣ a ⁢third‌ political⁢ party, saying, “Elon’s totally lost it.”

Musk had previously criticized Republicans for insufficient efforts to cut federal spending in their budget reconciliation bill,which aims to advance Trump’s agenda on tax cuts,immigration,energy,defense,and the debt limit.

The Tesla CEO specifically called out Trump, Johnson, and Senate⁢ Majority ‍Leader ​John Thune, R-S.D.

Despite Musk’s objections, Republicans have largely united ⁢behind Trump and the bill.
