President Donald Trump announced that Katie Zacharia will succeed Karoline Leavitt as White House press secretary, bringing a communications adviser from his media company into the administration role. The transition follows Leavitt’s departure on Aug. 27 to spend time with her children before joining Fox News Channel as an on-air contributor on Nov. 1.
Trump Announces Media Adviser Katie Zacharia as Press Secretary
Trump revealed his selection of Zacharia on Truth Social, describing her as a loyal and brilliant supporter, right from the beginning,
as reported by the Associated Press. Zacharia works as a conservative commentator for Trump Media & Technology Group, which operates the social media platform. In a post on X, Zacharia thanked Trump and called the appointment the honor of a lifetime,
adding that his leadership is a blessing to this country.

Zacharia wrote on X, according to the Associated Press. Trump stated that Zacharia previously worked on his presidential campaigns, particularly in swing states, and briefly served as a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security earlier in the year. She has also appeared as a commentator for Fox News and Newsmax, and holds a law degree from Pepperdine University.
Karoline Leavitt Departs White House Role for Fox News
Leavitt announced her departure from the press secretary post on Aug. 12 and officially left the position on Aug. 27, stating she wanted to spend more time with her young children. She originally assumed the role in January 2025 after serving as national press secretary for Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign. Fox News Channel announced Monday that Leavitt will join the network as an on-air contributor starting Nov. 1.
