The move comes after clashes between protesters and federal agents in the predominantly Latino Paramount district. Authorities used tear gas and batons to disperse crowds.
Tom Homan, the administration’s border czar, told Fox News the deployment aims to make Los Angeles safer. however, California Gov. Gavin newsom has condemned the immigration enforcement actions as “cruel.”
The situation in Paramount remains tense, with continued clashes near the Home Depot where protests initially broke out. Law enforcement is using flash bangs and tear gas to clear demonstrators. Residents report some migrants are sheltering inside local businesses, afraid to emerge.

Homan, who traveled to Los angeles to oversee the immigration operations, said more resources are being brought in, including the National Guard. He warned of “zero tolerance” for violence or property damage.
FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino echoed this sentiment on X, stating, “You bring chaos, and we’ll bring handcuffs.” Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth also posted on X that the National guard was being mobilized and active-duty Marines at Camp pendleton were on high alert.
Newsom criticized the federal government’s decision to deploy the national Guard, calling it “purposefully inflammatory” and likely to “only escalate tensions.” He asserted that local authorities have adequate access to law enforcement assistance.
Trump responded on his Truth Social platform, suggesting federal intervention if Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass could not manage the situation.
