trump Urges Netanyahu Pardon Amid Corruption Trial
Updated June 26, 2025
Former President Donald Trump has called on Israel to either halt the ongoing corruption trial against prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or grant him a pardon. Trump’s statement, made Wednesday, followed criticism of the current administration’s handling of recent events in Iran.

Netanyahu was indicted in 2019 on charges including bribery, fraud, and breach of trust. His trial began in 2020.Trump, in his statement, lauded Netanyahu’s past actions, particularly regarding Iran’s nuclear program, calling him a “WARRIOR.” He also claimed Netanyahu was summoned to court this week for the continuation of what he described as a politically motivated case.
The possibility of a pardon rests solely with Israeli President Isaac herzog. However, according to Reuters, Herzog has stated that a pardon is “not currently on the table,” and no request has been made by netanyahu’s legal team.
Reactions from Netanyahu’s allies have been mixed. Likud Party member Rothman tweeted support for Trump’s sentiment, decrying the trial as damaging to Israel’s image. However, Rothman also cautioned against U.S. intervention in Israel’s legal proceedings, emphasizing the importance of judicial independence. Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi, also a Likud member, echoed Trump’s sentiments, stating the trial has cost Israel in national security.
”Perhaps there is no one that I know who could have worked in better harmony with the President of the United states, ME, than Bibi Netanyahu… THIS TRAVESTY OF ‘JUSTICE’ CAN NOT BE ALLOWED!”
What’s next
Netanyahu’s trial is scheduled to continue, and the political ramifications of Trump’s statement remain to be seen. The focus remains on the Israeli legal system and any potential actions by President herzog regarding a pardon.
