Donald Trump’s role in achieving a ceasefire between Israel and Iran has lead to a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize, according to U.S. Rep. Buddy Carter,R-Ga.
Carter announced his nomination of the former president in a letter to the norwegian Nobel Committee, citing Trump’s “extraordinary and historic” achievement in brokering the agreement. The proclamation follows unprecedented U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities at Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. Trump stated the sites were “wholly and totally obliterated,” a claim Tehran denies.
The ceasefire followed an exchange of missile strikes between Israel and Iran. Trump reportedly used strong language toward both sides for violating the initial armistice. Media reports indicate Israel has since ceased further attacks.
